Another new state of the art primary care centre opened as part of the Sheffield LIFT initiative this week.
Working in partnership Community 1st Sheffield (the Sheffield LIFT company, in which Equity Solutions is the private sector partner) and Sheffield PCT have developed the £4.2m new health centre as part of their continued vision to expand the range of healthcare services inSheffield and improve access to services for local communities.
The ground breaking facility, which houses a range of health services under one roof, is the first of its kind in the south-west of the city and represents the PCT’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services in local communities. The new centre will be home to a GP practice, podiatry surgery and clinics, two dental surgeries, physiotherapy treatment rooms and gymnasium and commercial space, all with new and improved parking facilities.
The new development, which also offers commercial space which will include a pharmacy, a healthy eating cafe and potentially an optician opened to patients on Monday 22nd October 2007.
The local communities of Batemoor, Jordanthorpe, Lowedges and the surrounding areas will also be welcomed to their state-of-the-art new primary healthcare facility public open day on Saturday 27th October 2007, which is a chance for the local community to have an official introduction to their new facility.
The open day which runs from 10am – 3pm will include activities and entertainment in the form of a free prize draw, face painting, bouncy castle, drumming and circus skills workshops, hip-hop dancing performances and a photographic display ‘Images of Health’ and music by young musicians at Meadowhead School. Information on the services available within the health centre together with pre-bookable guided tours of the new building will also be available on the day.

This is another example of Sheffield PCT’s ongoing work to improve primary health facilities withinSheffieldand improving access to services in local communities, and we hope the local community will work with us to maintain and develop the centre so it continues to provide them with the best healthcare.”
David Johnson, Director of Community 1st Sheffield Ltd said: “We hope that the local community in Jordanthorpe will be delighted with their new primary care centre. By being close to the local shopping precinct we hope that this centre revitalises the area as a focal point for the community.”
Robert Bailey, Non-Executive Director of Sheffield PCT will be officially opening the centre and Councillor Clive Skelton will also address the local community on the open day. Refreshments will be provided by local charity group Agewell; community drumming circle ‘Drum4Fun’,GreentopCircusSchooland Fancy Faces will be providing entertainment and workshops.
As well as the new primary care centre in Jordanthorpe, within the LIFT initiative, there are already two brand new developments now operational in Wincobank and Deepcar. Plans to develop other new primary care schemes around Sheffield are progressing and will support Sheffield PCT’s strategic review ‘Achieving Balanced Health’.
