Jordanthorpe Health Centre – Public Art Project
As part of the development of Jordanthorpe Health Centre, Community 1st Sheffield commissioned a piece of art by a local sculptor to provide a welcoming focal point and involve the local community.
The sculptor was given a brief, agreed by Community 1st Sheffield, bluesky architects and NHS Sheffield, to develop three potential options for the artwork. Community consultation then took place with the Batemoor and Jordanthorpe community forum and patients from the existing Jordanthorpe Health Centre, with a feedback form so that people could select their favourite proposal and make comments.
The winning design, ‘Pebbles in the Pond’ incorporates stone pebbles into a steel railing at the front of the building. The concentric rings represent the pattern made when a pebble is dropped into a pond and the pebbles contain phrases and messages relating to health.
